Coordinator of the New Evangelization – St. Nicholas Parish, Freedom

Position Title: Coordinator of the New Evangelization
Department: Saint Nicholas Parish, Freedom                                     
Rank: Part time, Non-exempt, benefit eligible
Supervisor’s Title: Pastor                                                                                      

Job Summary: As Coordinator of NE, be able to work with the parish team in the NE department with the design, development, execution, and evaluation of the  the k-12 religious education program and assist with the youth ministry program coordinator. The coordinator will practice a rich spiritual and intellectual life to strengthen and give focus to these endeavors. Additionally, assist with Baptismal Preparation, Young/Adult programs, and support and help with Parish events.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

K : Knowledge

  • BA in Catholic studies or related field preferred, with continuing education in Catholic studies required. 
  • Has completed “Protecting Our Children” checks and training.
  • Has completed or is pursuing certification in religious certification in the diocesan program.

S : Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal relations
  • Excellent communication skills with children, youth, and adults
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficient written/verbal/computer skills
  • English/Spanish proficiency helpful

Duties and Responsibilities:

Embrace the mission and vision of the Catholic Diocese of Green Bay and work in accordance with Catholic doctrinal, moral, spiritual, liturgical, and social teachings.

  1. Review and establish a curriculum based on Diocesan guidelines for the k-12 program
  2. Coordinate the academic year calendar and schedule
  3. Supervise the New Evangelization Department
  4. Ensure an appropriate supply of books, materials, and supplies
  5. Coordinate sacramental preparation and collaborate with clergy, volunteers, and Saint Nicholas school staff
    1. Penance
    2. First Communion
    3. Confirmation
    4. VBS
  6. Market the program to maximize enrollment and attendance
  7. Make opportunities for the youth to have an encounter with Jesus Christ through these activities
  8. Recruit and mentor volunteer catechists and chaperones
  9. Provide in-service and other catechist training opportunities with a goal of certification for each catechist
  10. Design and develop lessons for all RE classes/catechists
  11. Design, develop, execute and promote young/adult opportunities for faith development
  12. Design, develop, and execute Baptism Prep Sessions  for 1st child scheduled monthly
  13. Integrate catechesis with worship and community life
  14. Prepare monthly reports to Pastoral Council
  15. Pursue and promote GB Diocese events and classes for development to NE department and parish and school community
  16. Prepare a budget and operate within the approved budget
  17. Receive and respond to communications with the Diocesan Office of Children & Youth Faith Formation
  18. Present a report at the annual parish meeting
  19. Maintain files and records
  20. Perform additional related duties as requested or required

Physical/Visual/Mental Demands:

This position requires the ability at times to react to a fast-paced environment and will frequently have last minute demands. This position requires a fair amount of time sitting, standing, and walking; the ability to use office equipment and move and lift objects of 10 pounds.

Typical Working Conditions:

The coordinator will have a flexible schedule to accommodate the needs of those being served. Occasional travel for area and diocesan events

Nature of Supervision Received:

Direct Supervision by the Pastor with regular reports to the Diocesan Office of Children & Youth Faith Formation

Judgment Exercised/Decisions Made:

Decisions shall be geared toward the growth in faith of individuals and the whole community.

Financial Responsibility:

Responsible for effective use of time and budgeted resources.  He or she must follow diocesan guidelines as to authorization of expenditures, including the careful documentation of qualified reimbursable mileage and expenses.
